FAQs
Getting Started
-
Getting started begins with reaching out. You’re welcome to connect through the Let’s Connect page, by email, or by phone. You can share a little about what brings you to therapy and what you’re hoping for, and we can discuss possible next steps.
If you’d prefer to connect before making a decision, I also offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation call. It’s an opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and consider whether working together might be a good fit.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and talk about what brings you to therapy. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant experiences, goals, and what you hope to get from counselling. There is no expectation to share everything at once. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
-
That is completely okay! You do not need to have the right words or a clear idea of what you want to work on. Sometimes it takes time to understand what is happening or what you need. We can begin wherever you are and work together to make sense of things.
About Therapy
-
Item descriptionConfidentiality is an important part of creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. Information shared in therapy is kept private, with some legal and professional exceptions. These limits will be reviewed with you before we begin so you understand your rights and what to expect.

Will I have to talk about everything that has happened to me?
Therapy is a process that unfolds at your own pace. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready, and you don't need to have the right words or know where to begin. We'll take time to build trust and a sense of safety, while respecting your experiences, boundaries, and readiness throughout the process.
-
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Parts Work, because I believe therapy should reflect the unique needs and experiences of each person.
Sometimes we may focus on one approach, while at other times we might bring different approaches together. We'll work collaboratively to find what feels most helpful for you, allowing our approach to evolve as your needs and goals change.
For more information on the types of therapy I do, see the Services page.
-
Do I need to have experienced trauma to benefit from EMDR?
Not necessarily. While EMDR is often used to support people who have experienced trauma or PTSD, it can also help with experiences that continue to affect how you feel, think, and respond in the present. This might include anxiety, distressing memories, difficult life experiences, or negative beliefs about yourself. We can talk together about whether EMDR might be a good fit for you.
-
The frequency of sessions depends on your needs, goals, and what feels manageable for you. Many clients begin with weekly or biweekly appointments, and we can adjust the frequency over time as things evolve. We'll work together to find a rhythm that feels supportive and helpful.
-
There is no set timeline for therapy. Some people come with a specific concern they would like to address, while others are looking for longer-term support. The length of therapy depends on your goals, experiences, and what feels meaningful to you. We will regularly check in about your progress and the direction of our work together.
